7AM – The Ever Delayed Webseries

So finally after 3 years of hard work 7AM episode 1 is finnaly on the interweb for your viewing pleasure. Going back through my initial blog posts of the webseries a lot has changed about it from day one on the 7th of Febuary 2011 to now.

For starters the story was not about banks being corrupt at all but about guardian angels saving the chosen people.

So as you can see this film has been non stop delayed and you can see how about 90% of the film was finished by May 2011.

The delays were due to

  • actors bailing
  • Going on a big holiday to Europe
  • Being inspired by Europe and a film called Zeitgeist and re-writing the whole story
  • Getting very busy with film work
  • Getting a job with animal logic
  • Giving up on making it because I realised how crap it would compared to the work of my new colleagues
  • Deciding I should finish it anyway

Any way I might do a wrap up on it after I release all of them.

7AM – Production Begins! First Photo’s!

So shooting has officially began for my upcoming web series ’7AM’. You can read about it’s plot in my previous post HERE.

Episode 1 has had most of the shooting completed for it, as well as several scenes from ep’s 2-4. Bella’s horrifying death scene from episode one has been shot successfully involving my first use of special effects in over two years. Prior to this in my last film The Face (2010) I moved away from sfx to a completely digital effect approach. This film will feature a combination of the two throughout.

A big setback that has just occurred is “7 Year Old Bella” not wanting to be a part of the movie due to it’s graphic content. At this stage I am hoping to convince her into the role, but if any one knows any young girls that could pass as a 7 year old Bella and would be interested in participating in my film please get in contact with me.

The Face – Update – Final Touches + Revenue Sharing

So its only a few days away until the release of my new short film The Face. It was just shown to the first test subject last night with some positive results so I am getting pretty excited!!

The only things left for me to do are:

  • Do some final touches to the score and soundtrack
  • Record a voice over for a news segment
  • Make the Credits (This will take all night as I am making the credits really cool)
  • Add some optical flares to the film for stylize

On another note, today marks a significant day for me as I have been approved by Youtube for Revenu Sharing. Basicly this means that Youtube will pay me money (about a 20th of a cent) for every hit I get on the video. The video that I was offered revenue sharing for (two weeks ago) and now have been approved on is The Face Trailer

The only other thing I have ever been requested youtube revenu sharing on was my Family Guy Compared video. However I had used copyrighted content on that video (family guy clips) so I couldn’t use it. I wasn’t suprised when a request for revenue sharing was made for that as it has over 7000 views. The thing that suprised me was the Face trailer getting it when it only has a bit over a thousand… but still cheerin!

The Face – Update ~ Budget

This new Face film is by far the cheapest of them all, I have spent the least on this out of any of the others in the series. Come to think of it, I have spent less on this film then any of my films.

This is what the budget consisted of:

£4.50 ($7.50 AUD) - Hospital Scrub Gown

£7.50 ($12.50 AUD) - Green Screen

£4.00 ($6.70 AUD) – My actor being a Jew*

TOTAL:    £15.50 ($24.80 AUD)**

So as you can see only $24.80 AUD, this can be compared with my last film (The Face 3) having a budget of $120 AUD, the thing is this film was a massive failure. I have managed to keep the costs down so much due to the utilization of the new technology that I have aquired. I havent spent any money on red food dye for this one, which is where a lot of the money has gone into previous films, the face 3 had $60 spent on the blood mix, that is half of its entire budget! All the blood in the new one in CG, in fact all of the effects are…  apart from  a severed arm prop.

My next Face update on monday the 10th of May  will go into depth about this and explain why The Face: Chapter 3 failed and how that is changing in the new Face. Stay tuned

*If this offends any Jews, dont take it so personally, Jew is used in the same way that “gay” is these days, its got another meaning in todays society

** This isn’t including a lot of stuff I got for free such as £10 000 worth of proffesional editing and compositing software and £50 worth of costumes and props I won off the website Silly Jokes.

New Short: The Face 4 Live action EXPLOSIVE pics + story details!

So here are two screenshots of the face 4 (still in early stages) as promised.

So their you have it, the first two real screenshots, and you can see the new face title screen in my last face 4 post. So you may be wondering a few things, so here are the answers:

  1. Is this movie set in England? This movie is infact set in England, Walton/Kingston on Thames to be exact!
  2. Is that Eddie running away from that Explosion and if so how if he is died in the first one? Yes its true Eddie is back! The film was originally called “The Survivor”which is a pretty good hint but as you can see he hasn’t escaped death… yet
  3. What the hell are causing these explosions? If you were super observitant, you would have noticed that their is something clearly coming from out of the sky that is causing these explosions… I wont go into anymore detail but this film is on a far more epic scale then the past films.
  4. (if your a filmmaker) how are you doing these effects!?! To achieve these awsome effects I have been following a lot of tutorials on the net and studying about the whole process a lot. I have also been using proffesional software such as: Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effects, Trapcode Particular Plug-in,  Autodesk 3Ds Studio Max, RayFire, Action Essential 2, Twitch Plugin and Boujou. So as you can guess most of the time that is being spent on this project is actually forcing myself to learn these extremely complex mofo’s. So i hope its worth it.

So I hope that this answered all of your questions and adds some hype. As for when it will be finished and released to Youtube I am not entirely sure really because it is all taking a lot longer then expected, however it must be finished befor I have left for Australia in Late June because all I will have after that is my laptop which wont have the processing power for any of the vfx composites, so I hope i get it done by then. At this stage I am still learning so things are moving rather slowly but I hope they pick up the pace.

Also, as for a trailer to this film, I am  excited to say that (when it is at the stage that it is ready…) the trailer will be finally featuring the Film Trailer Voice Over Guy to add to this franchises nod towards cleshay.

Popping my blog cherry ~ Knotted Films, AFTRS Foundation Course App, New Film!

Hello everyone, just like to introduce myself firstly. I am Oscar Knott, I make short films and all that stuff and really intreseted in it all (http://www.youtube.com/oscarknott69)

I have finished school in Australia and now living in England for a bit. I will later be coming back to apply for the “Australian Film Television and Radio School’s (AFTRS) Foundation Course” for 2011 (http://www.aftrs.edu.au/courses/foundation-diploma.aspx).

At the moment im dreading over the application for it, their are no pre-requisets for it (which im kind of suprised about) but the tasks are a bitch:

“Tasks to be completed as part of the application process:

  • Set Task 1: Submit a 2-3 page scripted scene between two strangers in which something substantial changes for at least one of them
  • Set Task 2: Write an outline of your creative work and experience (300 words)”

As you can probably guess its not so much task 2 im worried about as I have a fair amount of creative experience on my record, both personal and proffesional. So as for Task 1! JUST BECAUSE IM JOINING THIS COURSE DOESNT MEAN IM A WRITER! Any one who has ideas for this please share, i really need some inspiration. My plan is to simply write as many scripts as I can untill then and decide which is best by the end. I will also be posting these as I finish them for advice from you guys!
As some of you may know, AFTRS is super prestigious and ultra selective so it will be an acomplishment if I do manage to get in. I have also noticed that their arent enough journal/blogs online of the stressful AFTRS app process and what the experience is actually like so I plan to give you as much detail as i can as to what to expect.

Alternativley if I dont make it into AFTRS (god forbid) i will end up at tafe to study film and tv :( the course looks alright but the fact that their is no application requirements and all you have to do to get in is show up on the day kind of puts me off.. so lets hope i dont wind up their…

Lastly I would like to officially announce my new film which I will have more details on in my next post.  So they new film is…. get ready for it! ….THE FACE (4). If you are familiar with my past films you will likely be dissapointed by this news and not suprised either. But their is more to this sequal (or should I say reboot) then meets the eye. So as I said befor, I will go into more detail with this in my next post and put up the first image (or images if ur lucky haha) of the film.
